The glorious 7 – Legends Slam 2.0 2025/2026

Legends Slam has always been an attractive goal for many runners. Despite having to run 4 ultras in one year the probably most complicated part of finishing a slam is to stay healthy and fit throughout that year. The individual races offer a variety of different flavors to the Legends Slam menu. Starting with the Great Escape in September in the beautiful Ardennes of both Luxembourg and Belgium – a first taste of what the longer Legends Trail has to offer; to me the best first contact to this region, the Legends Family and the way they celebrate ultra. In contrast to Legends Trail you see more of the beautiful surroundings due to the longer daylight hours and the more friendly weather (in most of the editions at least). Great Escape is followed by the mostly dark, cold and wet Bello Gallico aka. Legends Trail Christmas party in December. A race much easier from the course itself but with the above mentioned hurdles. It is easy, it is boring, it is cold and it is long – you better really really want that finish. It’s more a mental game than anything else. There are no words needed with regard to Legends Trail itself. The ultimate challenge in February. A race with finish percentages between 20-50% depending on the conditions on the race days. A challenge leading the runners into the biggest possible uncertainty while stripping down their motivation and finally revealing what really drives them deep within – and all that in the unforgiving winter Ardennes. The Legends Slam is completed with the Backyard-like race Another One Bites the Dust in July. On paper the easiest race of the Slam. Summer, long days, every loop the same course – an easy task. Yet it remains a tricky thing – with a high burden on the potential slammers minds: should it really be possible to fail so close to final relief?

So far Legends Slam counts 78 finishes from 63 runners between 2018 and 2025.

As of September 2025 the Legends Slam and with that all 4 races got an upgrade. Great Escape, Bello Gallico and Another One Bites the Dust were prolonged from 100 mi to 200 km (some of them Legends km). And the Legends Trail itself from 280 km to 350 km – forming the new Legends Slam 2.0 with a total distances of almost 1000 km in total.

With only a few days left to the final run completing the first Legends Slam 2.0 – 7 runners remain with a finish at Great Escape 2025, Bello Gallico 2025 and Legends Trail 2026. The final 7 heading into Another One Bites the Dust; only 34 loops between them and the Legends Slam 2.0. Good luck to all of us. May we be Legends slammer in a few more days.
